The Kermadec, Fullers360’s newest addition, is no ordinary ferry. It’s the world’s first certified electric hydrofoiling vessel, designed in collaboration with sustainable marine technology experts at Vessev. According to Vessev, the VS-9 sets "new standards for innovation and sustainability" in the marine industry.
“The Vessev VS–9 is a game-changer for our fleet and our passengers,” says Tim O’Halloran, Chief Commercial Officer at Fullers360. “Its innovative design and sustainable operation are perfectly suited to Auckland’s vibrant maritime landscape.”
The Cutting-Edge Features of the Hydrofoiling Ferry VS-9
The nine-meter-long VS-9 combines innovation and performance to deliver a unique travel experience. With a spacious interior designed for up to eight passengers, the ferry reaches speeds of 25 knots—providing an experience more like flying than sailing.
At the heart of the vessel is its zero-emission propulsion system, offering a range of 50 nautical miles. This advanced technology is inspired by hydrofoiling designs from Team New Zealand’s 2013 America’s Cup-winning racing yachts. By “flying” above the waves, the VS-9 minimizes wave impacts, offering a smooth and comfortable journey typically associated with much larger vessels.
“We’re thrilled to see the Vessev VS-9 enter service with Fullers360,” says Eric Laakmann, CEO of Vessev. “This ferry is the first electric vessel in their fleet, and it represents a giant leap towards their net-zero goal by 2040. By leveraging hydrofoiling technology, the VS-9 delivers a large-vessel experience on an agile platform that can dock and charge at almost any marina.”
Collaboration for a Greener Future
The partnership between Vessev and Fullers360 doesn’t stop with the VS-9. They are currently developing the VS-18, a 100-passenger hydrofoiling ferry that will further revolutionize marine transportation in New Zealand. Book your seat here today!
